Diego is a Sabre Toothed Tiger (Smilodon fatalis). In Ice Age 3 he chases an antelope, but it gets away, and he wonders if sticking with the gang is making him to soft. He was going to split up with the gang, but then Sid goes missing, so they stay together and look for Sid. At one point, Diego said that living in Dino World might be the right life for him, but in the end, he comes back up to the Ice Age with the others.

Earlier on, a similar situation with the antelope happened, but with Troodon troodon. One of them was getting away, but, with the thought of Ellie's baby on the line, he managed to catch up and stop the troodons .
